Padmasambhava, known as the Second Buddha, who brought Buddhism to Tibet.

Padmasambhava, known as the Second Buddha, who brought Buddhism to Tibet.

Who was Guru Rinpoche?

Guru Rinpoche (Sanskrit: Padmasambhava) brought Vajrayana Buddhism to Tibet in the 8th century C.E. at the invitation of King Trisong Detsen. Padmasambhava means ‘Lotus-born’ and derives from a legend that he was born in a lotus blossom on the river Indus, and is considered the emanation of Buddha Amitabha and Avalokiteshvara.

Guru Rinpoche was a renowned scholar, meditator, yogi, and magician who was said to have traveled widely throughout India, Bhutan and Tibet. Many legends have been handed down about the events of his life and the Tibetan woman Yeshé Tshogyel who became his chief Tibetan disciple. During his lifetime, he subdued spirits who were hostile to the introduction of Buddhism. He is perhaps the most important figure in the history of Tibetan Buddhism — Guru Rinpoche is so highly regarded in Tibetan Buddhism that he is often referred to as the second Buddha.

How Is Guru Rinpoche Relevant In Today’s World?

Many great Buddhist Teachers recommend the practice of Guru Rinpoche as being the most crucial in our degenerate age:

About This Event

An empowerment is an initiation ceremony. Guru Rinpoche represents the body, speech, and mind accomplishments of the indestructible power of Compassion and the purity of enlightened Wisdom. This empowerment will enable one to establish a profound connection to the blessings of Guru Rinpoche’s body, speech and mind, leading to the union of emptiness and wisdom, the true nature of mind.

Ven. Lama Lödu Rinpoche will also teach a set of instructions on how to perform the daily Guru Rinpoche practice. He received the Guru Rinpoche empowerment from many highly realized Lamas, therefore the collective blessings are powerful and will be of great benefit to all.

Please note: Participants should bring a pen or pencil and paper for note taking. Video equipment is prohibited.

Meetup Group to Promote Tibetan Meditation in OKC

We have just created a new Meetup group to promote Tibetan meditation practices here in Oklahoma City. Please join now to support our cause.

Our plan is to create a stable core group of Tibetan meditation practitioners
here in Oklahoma City.

meditation-postureHere is the 6 month plan (by March 1, 2017) going forward:

We will have approximately 50 people in the Oklahoma City area who have received some sort of Guru Rinpoche empowerment.
We already have about 20 individuals in central Oklahoma who participated in the Guru Rinpoche empowerment the last time in 2009. We hope to register around 30 more when Lama Lodu Rinpoche gives the empowerment this October 2016.

This will allow us to do a cohesive group practice that generates a lot of positive energy for everyone present. If you still haven’t got a formal Guru Rinpoche mantra empowerment, you can get one here.

Thangka_cloud_700_solidOur aim is to have at least paying 50 members by March 1, 2017.
Memberships dues will probably be $12 per year, something that most everyone can afford (especially for the benefit of spiritual enlightenment). We are still working on the logistics, but benefits will probably be 100% support and paid dues for all our regular weekly meditations throughout the year, PLUS a 10-20 per cent discount on all teachings that we sponsor in Oklahoma.

After rental space for weekly meditation, all surplus funds will go towards the establishment of a “Lama Fund”. This will facilitate the travel expenses of Tibetan teachers to/from Oklahoma.

Please note that Oklahoma Rimé Foundation serves the entire state of Oklahoma — therefore practitioners living within the state are called upon to leverage your relationships with spiritual teachers and their organizations to bring them to Oklahoma to enrich our spiritual communities.

If you have any questions or suggestions about creating a sustainable Tibetan meditation group, please let us know. Also, join our Meetup group to get notifications on our regular, weekly meditation meetups.
